Mauritius Trade Gap Widens in August
The trade deficit in Mauritius rose to MUR 10.2 billion in August 2019 from MUR 9.1 billion in the same month last year, as exports sank 10.5 percent to MUR 6.6 billion, mainly dragged down by lower shipments of miscellaneous manufactured articles (-15 percent). Meanwhile, imports rose 2.0 percent to MUR 16.8 billion, boosted by purchases of food & live animals (25.3 percent) and machinery and transport equipment (0.2 percent).

Mauritius trade Gap Narrows in July
The trade deficit in Mauritius shrank to MUR 10.4 billion in July 2019 from MUR 12.6 billion in the same month last year, as exports rose 5 percent to MUR 7.1 billion, buoyed by shipments of food & live animals (3.8 percent) and crude materials, inedible, except fuels (6.5 percent). In contrast, sales decreased for miscellaneous manufactured articles (-10%); manufactured goods (-10.9 percent); chemicals & chemical products (-0.7 percent) and machinery & transport equipment (-21.9 percent). Imports declined 9.7 percent to MUR 17.4 billion, amid lower purchases of machinery & transport equipment (-6.9 percent); mineral fuels, lubricants & related materials (-8 percent); manufactured goods (-1 percent) and food & live animals (-28.9 percent).

Mauritius Trade Gap Narrows in June
The trade deficit in Mauritius decreased to MUR 7.4 billion in June 2019 from MUR 8.8 billion in the same month last year, as imports sank 10.3 percent to MUR 14.26 billion mainly due to lower purchases of food & live animals (-14.9 percent); mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (-27.8 percent) and manufactured goods (-3.9 percent). Exports declined at a softer 3.9 percent to MUR 6.8 billion, dragged down by reduced shipments of miscellaneous manufactured articles (-18.4 percent) while those of food rose 2.1 percent.

Mauritius Trade Deficit Widens in May
The trade deficit in Mauritius widened to MUR 11.39 billion in May 2019 from MUR 10.02 billion in the same month last year, as imports rose 10.6 percent to MUR 18.44 billion boosted by purchases of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (43.9 percent), manufactured goods (15.5 percent), and machinery and transport equipment (3.4 percent). Among major trade partners, imports increased from India (53 percent), China (3.4 percent) and Madagascar (100 percent), but fell from the UK (-29.3 percent), Japan (-2.6 percent) and South Africa (-0.9 percent). On the other hand, exports were up 6 percent to MUR 7.05 billion, due mainly to sales of miscellaneous manufactured articles (16.7 percent) while food exports fell sharply (-6 percent). Exports rose to South Africa (43.4 percent), the US (27.7 percent), France (10.8 percent), Madagascar (17.3 percent) and Italy (47.5 percent), but declined to the UK (-11.9 percent).

Mauritius Trade Gap Widens 36.7% YoY in March
The trade deficit in Mauritius increased to MUR 9.8 billion in March 2019 from MUR 7.1 billion in the same month a year ago. Imports surged 15.1 percent to MUR 16.64 billion, boosted by purchases of food & live animals (23.6 percent); machinery and transport equipment (29.6 percent); manufactured goods (29.6 percent) and mineral fuels, lubricants & related materials (0.4 percent). The most important import partners were India (20.9 percent of total purchases), China (12 percent), France (8.6 percent) and South Africa (6.9 percent). Exports fell 5.9 percent to MUR 6.9 billion, mainly dragged down by lower sales of miscellaneous manufactured articles (-14.4 percent); manufactured goods (-1.2 percent) and chemicals & related products (-9.8 percent). Main export partners were the UK (13.1 percent of sales), France (11.2 percent), South Africa (9.4 percent) and the US (9.3 percent).

Mauritius Trade Gap Narrows in November
The trade deficit in Mauritius decreased to MUR 10.60 billion in November 2018 from MUR 11.65 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports surged 13.1 percent to MUR 71.15 billion in November 2018, mainly boosted by shipments of food & live animals (15.1%) and miscellaneous manufactured goods (8.7%). Sales rose mostly to South Africa (55%), the US (24.6%), France (1.6%) and Kenya (79.6%) while they fell to the UK (-22.6%). Meanwhile, imports fell 1.2 percent to 17.72 billion, dragged down by lower purchases of food & live animals (-2.8%); manufactured goods (-0.7%) and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (-8.7 percent). Imports declined from China (-7.8%), India (-31.5%) and France (-12.4%) but they grew from South Africa (42.6%), Australia (154.2%) and the US (36%).
